WALKING for just 20 minutes every day can be a lifesaver by slashing the risk of heart disease and cancer.
Research found almost 40,000 lives each year could be saved simply by a brisk walk to prevent the illnesses.
Experts say urgent action is needed to tackle Britain’s “inactivity epidemic” and that just two-and-a-half hours walking a week could add three years to the average lifespan.
On top of the 37,000 deaths every year in England, regular walking could also prevent 12,000 heart disease emergencies and almost 7,000 cases of breast cancer.
